The Uppingham Patient Participation Group

This group was formed two or three years ago at the instigation of Dr May. As a result of an advertisement in the local paper a group of about half a dozen interested patients met at the surgery with the Practice Manager, Inez Harvey. Subsequently one of the practice doctors also attended our meetings.

Now we meet at lunch time at the surgery with representatives from the practice team about every two months.

It forms an opportunity to discuss any changes that are about to take place, improvements to the patient experience and other "burning topics".

Perhaps you are unable to come to the meetings - but have ideas about the patient experience to share with us - phone or email one of the group.

Names and contact numbers:

Chairman: Mrs Katherine Green - 01572 737288
Secretary: Geoff Maskell - 01572 820597
email: Geoffrey.Maskell@homecall.co.uk

The practice would very much like to produce a Newsletter, but it needs some keen people to write items, perhaps edit, print, distribute in the villages - if you could help in any way please let us know.

There are so many things happening in the Health Service and the leaflets in the surgery are only picked up by those receiving treatment - but the Health Service concerns every one - don't wait until you are in hospital!

By the way, what is the future of Rutland Memorial Hospital?

Do you know about "Choose & Book"?

Have you the phone numbers for OOH and PALS?

NHS "speak" is another language, do you understand it?

OOH - Out of Hours to call a doctor at nights and weekends.

PALS - Patient Advisory Liaison Service. They welcome views on:

Services provided.
Ideas on how services could be improved.
Provide information on NHS services
Helps sort out problems quickly on your behalf.

Medical services are mostly used by the retired and young families - at the moment the first group is well represented on the Committee, but not the second. We would welcome new members. If the meeting time is inconvenient, an alternative may be considered.

Please do contact us to show your interest. We look forward to this - contacts:

Chairman: Mrs Katherine Green - phone 01572 737288
Secretary: Geoffrey Maskell - phone 01572 820597. Or leave your name and contact details at the surgery.

Local Newletters

Did you know that the Uppingham GP Practice has a patient group - people interested in how our local Health Service and our own GP practice are working together to improve the service that patients receive.

Mostly people are not interested in their hospital and medical treatment until they are ill - and their interest, quite reasonably is getting well again. However if you or one of your family have been in hospital then we would be pleased to hear from you how you have fared.

Did you receive the treatment you wanted? Were you treated with respect and dignity? Were there any ways in which your experience could be improved? Please tell us.

Have you experienced any difficulty at the surgery - with making appointments, obtaining prescriptions, choosing a hospital for treatment, follow-up after leaving hospital. Again please tell us.

The Department of Health wants people to be more involved in their health.

Our practice is the only one in our area to have a patient participation group - it is affiliated to a National Association and supported by our practice.

Our group was initiated by the doctors and one of them attends our meetings along with the practice manager. At the moment the group meets at lunch time about every two or three months.

The chairman of the group is: Mrs Katherine Green

The secretary is: Geoff Maskell

We would particularly welcome new members.

If you have any ideas for improving the very good service we receive from our practice, then please get in touch with the chairman or secretary and it may be considered.
