Durnford Medical Centre is affiliated to The North West Deanery and Manchester University Medical School and is involved in the Post-Graduate training of G.P. Registrars and FY2 G.P. S.H.O.s, the Under-Graduate teaching of Medical Students, and occasionally students from other disciplines eg Nursing Students. Durnford Medical Centre occasionally participates in the training of Doctors who have qualified overseas prior to their working within the NHS. A G.P. Registrar is an experienced, qualified and registered Doctor who has completed several years of post-graduate training and is undertaking the final year of their specialist training to become a fully qualified G.P. A registrar is expected to perform all of the tasks of a qualified G.P. e.g. surgeries and visits etc. but under the educational supervision and responsibility of a suitably qualified and approved trainer. An FY2 G.P. S.H.O.(Foundation Year 2, General Practice Senior House Officer) is a reciently qualified and newly registered doctor who will spend four months learning the basics of general practice before returning to continue specialist hospital training. They will perform most (but not all) of the duties of a G.P. but under the close supervision of suitably qualified and approved trainer. A registrar/FY2 G.P. S.H.O. or students may be present during consultations, they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as all other practice personnel, and will leave the room at your request if you wish. It is sometimes useful to videotape consultations for teaching or assessment purposes. You will be informed if recording is taking place prior to the consultation, your written consent will be sought prior to and after a recorded consultation and you may ask for recording to be stopped at any time, physical examinations will never be filmed although may take place "off camera". Any recording made is subject to the same care and regulations as your written notes and will be deleted when no longer needed. During re-accreditation for teaching and training it is sometimes neccessary for medically qualified external assessors to examine patient records, they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as all the other practice personnel, however if you do not want them to be able to see your records then please inform the practice in writing or using the "feedback" section of this website. Durnford Medical Centre achieved the "Investors in People" award in April '01 |
